Pagination

Paging behavior for Epic FHIR List activities, with the request and response fields that carry the page size and the paging cursor.

A search returns a single page of results along with a token for retrieving the next one. The connector does not loop automatically. This lets an automation that needs only the first 20 observations avoid retrieving a patient's entire history, and it allows a long retrieval to be paused, resumed or cancelled.

Every List activity returns the same structure: content holds the records for the current page, and pagination holds the cursor. The paging token sits alongside the records rather than on each one.

FieldDirectionNotes
CountRequestRecords per page, defaulting to 50 when left blank. Epic caps this value per resource and silently reduces anything larger.
Next Page Session IdRequestThe value returned by the previous call. Leave blank for the first page.
Has More PagesResponsetrue when Epic advertised a further page.
Next Page Session IdResponseThe token for the next call. Empty on the last page.
Returned CountResponseThe number of records in the current page.

A paging loop works as follows:

  1. The first call sets Count to the page size and leaves Next Page Session Id blank.
  2. The automation processes the records in content.
  3. While Has More Pages is true, the next call repeats the same filters with Next Page Session Id set to the value returned by the previous call.
  4. The loop ends when Has More Pages returns false.
Important:

All other search parameters must stay identical between pages. The session ID encodes the entire search on Epic's side, and changing a filter partway through a retrieval produces undefined results.

An empty final page signals normal completion. Epic may advertise a next-page link on every page, including the last one. Following that link returns an empty page, which means the retrieval is finished rather than an error or a permissions problem.
