Activities

Activities included in the Epic FHIR connector, with the FHIR resources each one can target.

The following table lists the activities included in this package.

ActivityDescription
HTTP Request activityRun HTTP calls to a specified API.
Get RecordRetrieve a single record by its FHIR ID, for any supported resource.
List RecordsSearch a supported resource and return one page of matching records.
Patient.$matchFind the one patient matching the supplied demographics or identifier.
Patient.$summaryRetrieve the International Patient Summary for one patient: active problems, allergies, medications and immunizations in a single call.

Choosing between Patient.$match and a patient search is a patient-safety matter, and Epic requires a minimum data set before it returns anyone. See Finding a patient.

Resource coverage

Get Record (by FHIR ID) and List Records (search) work against any of the 26 resources in the following table. Each resource also has a dedicated Get and List pair, and Patient has two additional operations. Which of these return data in your environment depends on the APIs authorized for the app.

The List resource

Epic uses List for seven separate contexts:

  • Patient List
  • Problems
  • Allergies
  • Medication List
  • Immunizations
  • Family History
  • Hospital Problems

The connector provides a single List activity whose fields and search parameters combine all seven, so the parameters you pass determine which context you get. For background, see Epic's Patient Roster Playbook.
