Connecting a customer-managed data lake

Connecting a customer-managed data lake gives you full control over your data storage. You provide your existing Amazon S3 bucket and configure an IAM role in your AWS account so that Peak can connect to it securely.

Prerequisites

Before connecting a customer-managed data lake, ensure you have the following:

  • Access to Peak with permissions to configure Data Bridge.
  • Access to your AWS account with permissions to create IAM roles and policies.
  • The name and region of the Amazon S3 bucket you want to connect.
  • The root path to your S3 bucket.

Steps

  1. In Peak, open Manage and select Data Bridge.
  2. Select Add data lake.
  3. Enter a unique name for the data lake connection.
    • The name must be unique to your Peak organization.
    • Only alphanumeric characters and underscores are allowed.
    • The name cannot be changed after the connection has been set up.
  4. Select Customer-managed, then select Next.
  5. Select the AWS region where your S3 bucket is located. Ensure the region complies with your data localization requirements.
  6. Enter the Bucket name — the name of your Amazon S3 bucket.
  7. Enter the Root path — the path from the root to your S3 bucket.
  8. Select Generate policy. Peak generates an IAM policy that you use when creating the IAM role in AWS.
  9. In your AWS account, open the IAM service and create a new IAM role.
    • Add Peak as a trusted entity.
    • Attach the policy generated in the previous step.
  10. Copy the IAM role ARN from your AWS account and paste it into the IAM role ARN field in Peak.
  11. Select Test to verify the connection.
    • If the test is successful, select Next to proceed.
    • If the test fails, check your bucket name, root path, and IAM role configuration, then try again.
  12. Review your configuration. To make changes, select Edit next to the relevant section.
  13. Select Finish to complete the setup.

Result

The data lake connection appears as Active in the Data Bridge list.

Important notes

  • The IAM role is linked to the specific data lake region, bucket name, and root path. If any of these values change after setup, you must generate a new IAM policy and update the IAM role in your AWS account.
  • The data lake region, bucket name, and root path can be edited while the connection is in draft state. Once setup is complete, these values cannot be changed.
