Set up your coding agent
Install the UiPath CLI and skills, sign in, and check that your coding agent can build Maestro Automate workflows.
A coding agent, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, can build a Maestro Automate workflow from a description: you say what the workflow should do, and the agent writes it. Then you see the result on the Flow canvas, test it, and change it. This page gets your coding agent ready in three steps.
Before you start
- A coding agent installed on your computer. The Coding Agents guide lists the supported coding agents.
- A UiPath account. Sign up describes how to create one.
- Administrator rights on your computer, so the installer can add what the CLI needs.
1. Install the UiPath CLI and skills
The UiPath CLI is a command-line tool that lets your coding agent work with UiPath. Skills are instructions that teach the agent how to build each kind of UiPath project, including Maestro Automate workflows. One installer adds both.
-
Run the installer in a terminal.
On macOS or Linux:
curl -fsSL https://download.uipath.com/uipath-cli/install.sh | bashcurl -fsSL https://download.uipath.com/uipath-cli/install.sh | bashOn Windows, in PowerShell:
irm https://download.uipath.com/uipath-cli/install.ps1 | iexirm https://download.uipath.com/uipath-cli/install.ps1 | iex -
Open a new terminal, then run
uip --help.
Result: the CLI lists its commands. The installer also adds Node.js, the .NET SDK, and Python if they're missing, and you can run it again safely. The Coding Agents guide describes what the installer does and how to skip parts of it.
2. Sign in
Sign in to your UiPath account from the terminal, so the agent can create and run workflows for you.
uip login
uip login
Your browser opens. Sign in with your UiPath account.
Result: the CLI is signed in to your account.
3. Check that it works
Open your coding agent and ask: "What UiPath skills do you have installed?" The answer should list the UiPath skills, including the one for Maestro flows.
Try it
Describe a workflow to your agent and ask it to build it as Maestro Automate, for example:
Build a Maestro Automate workflow that starts manually with a productId, gets the product from https://dummyjson.com/products/{productId}, and asks an AI agent whether the product is in stock. If it is, return "accepted". Otherwise, return "rejected".
Build a Maestro Automate workflow that starts manually with a productId, gets the product from https://dummyjson.com/products/{productId}, and asks an AI agent whether the product is in stock. If it is, return "accepted". Otherwise, return "rejected".
The agent creates the workflow file. Open it on the Flow canvas to see what it built, then test it in debug mode. Maestro Flow in the Coding Agents guide has more prompts to try.
