About the LibreOffice Calc activities package

LibreOffice Calc activities for reading, writing, formatting, and managing data in LibreOffice Calc spreadsheets on Windows and macOS.

Note:

The LibreOffice Calc activities package is available in preview.

The LibreOffice Calc activities package lets you automate reading and writing data in LibreOffice Calc spreadsheets. It provides activities that help you extract information, update cells and ranges, format cells, and manage sheets within your .ods, .xlsx, and .csv files.

The activities work directly through the LibreOffice Universal Network Objects (UNO) API using a native wrapper, so Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office do not need to be installed. Integrating LibreOffice Calc into your automations lets you manage structured data and streamline spreadsheet operations.

A Use Spreadsheet Document scope opens the file once, keeps it available to all child activities, and closes it when the container completes. It is the recommended approach when multiple activities operate on the same document.

Note:

The activities open the spreadsheet in the background, without a visible LibreOffice window, and close it when they finish. The activities that write data save the changes before the file is closed.

Requirements

The machine that runs the automation must meet the following requirements:

  • The package runs on Windows x64 machines, and on macOS 13.3 or later with Apple Silicon. Intel-based Macs are not supported.
  • LibreOffice must be installed in a default location: C:\Program Files\LibreOffice or C:\Program Files (x86)\LibreOffice on Windows, and /Applications/LibreOffice.app or ~/Applications/LibreOffice.app on macOS. For an installation elsewhere, the UNO_PATH environment variable must point to its program directory, which takes precedence over the default locations.
  • The process architecture must match the architecture of the installed LibreOffice.

Running the workflow

You can author and run workflows that contain these activities using either the Windows or the Cross-platform project type.
