Teach and Run

Show Delegate a repetitive task once, then have it complete the remaining records on its own.

Teach and Run lets you perform a repetitive task once, on the desktop, while Delegate watches, then have it complete the remaining records the same way. Use it when a system has no usable API and building a full automation would cost more than the task is worth.

Prerequisites

  • A repetitive task with a clear, consistent pattern across multiple records, such as updating a batch of order statuses or filling in a repeated form
  • The application or website containing the records open, with Screen Context enabled so Delegate can see what you do

Teach Delegate the task

  1. Tell Delegate what you want to teach it, for example: "Watch me update the shipping status for these orders, then do the rest the same way."
  2. Perform the task yourself on the first record, while Delegate observes.
  3. Review the pattern Delegate summarizes back to you, and correct anything it misread.
  4. Confirm the pattern to let Delegate continue with the remaining records.

Result: Delegate applies the same pattern to the remaining records in your chosen execution mode, stopping to confirm anything it is unsure about. It reports when it finishes, or if it hits a record that does not fit the pattern.

After a Teach and Run session

If this is a task you expect to repeat, save the session as a Routine so you can run it again without teaching it from scratch. See Repeat work with Routines.
