Delegate for Testing capabilities for QA engineers, covering how Delegate automates test operations such as result review, failure triage, and reporting.
Modern QA engineers spend far more time on the operational work surrounding testing than on hands-on testing itself. Beyond finding defects, a large part of their day is consumed by repetitive busywork such as:
- Reviewing test results and triaging failures
- Updating Jira tickets, and collecting logs and screenshots
- Rerunning unstable tests
- Coordinating with developers and DevOps teams
- Preparing status reports
- Managing test data and environments
- Communicating release risks across multiple tools and systems
Delegate is designed to take over this cross-application operational overhead through out-of-the-box computer-use capabilities and reusable skills that can interact with the tester's entire desktop environment, allowing QA engineers to focus more of their time on actual testing and quality validation.
What is Delegate for Testing?
Delegate for Testing is a specialization of Delegate, UiPath's general-purpose desktop AI agent, focused on the testing persona. Delegate for Testing is delivered as part of Assistant, in a dedicated Delegate tab, and serves as your testing assistant under the Test Cloud umbrella.
What can Delegate for Testing do?
Delegate is an AI Assistant for software testers that comes with out-of-the-box computer-use capabilities and reusable skills to interact with your entire desktop environment across web, desktop, and enterprise applications. It can automatically navigate tools like Jira, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Test Manager, Slack, Outlook, Excel, browsers, file systems, and monitoring platforms to perform actions such as:
- Reviewing and triaging test failures
- Rerunning tests and updating defects
- Collecting logs and screenshots
- Preparing reports
- Coordinating follow-ups
- Communicating status updates
This frees testers to focus on finding real product issues instead of operational busywork.
Besides that, it integrates well into the UiPath platform, offering various capabilities.
- Retrieves data and test steps from UiPath Test Manager via the UiPath Command Line Interface (CLI) (
uipCLI) - Executes manual tests autonomously on the desktop
- Reports results back to Test Manager
- Generates and emails reports
- Creates routines to schedule recurring test runs
- Creates, updates, or deletes Test Manager objects (projects, test cases, test sets, executions, reports)
The QA/Testing profile
The QA/Testing profile is a role-specific experience built on top of the general Delegate agent, featuring:
- A tailored home screen with testing-specific prompts by default.
- Pre-installed testing-specific skills, delivered via the Test Cloud plugin. See Skills for testing.
- The Effort control defaulting to Medium, balancing thoroughness with response speed. See Settings for the Testing profile.
Benefits
Because Delegate interacts with applications the same way a human user would, it is capable, in principle, of performing any task achievable manually on the desktop. The benefits below are representative examples of this capability.
Workflow efficiency:
- Single natural language prompt to execute complex test workflows, without scripting or tool-switching.
- Automated test report generation for QA Engineers, Release Managers, and Developers, ready to share in minutes.
- Autonomous manual test execution, running a plain-English manual test case from Test Manager end-to-end without scripting.
- Reduced repetitive coordination work: report generation, test execution status tracking, and stakeholder communication handed to Delegate.
Integration and traceability:
- Direct Test Manager integration: data flows to and from Test Manager via the
uipCLI, with no manual data export required. - The underlying uipath-test skill is included automatically with the Test Cloud plugin.
- Publish pre-existing test results to Test Manager without re-executing the test case, supporting partial runs and external result sources.
- Full per-step execution tracing, with artefacts automatically attached to step logs in Test Manager for audit and replay.
How do I trigger test-specific operations?
The QA/Testing profile automatically enables the testing-specific settings and the Test Cloud plugin (Settings > Skills & tools > Plugins > Test Cloud) during onboarding. From there, a single natural language prompt kicks off the full flow (retrieve test steps → execute on desktop → publish results → send report) or manages Test Manager objects directly.
Identity & Authentication
Your Test Manager user identity (display name and email) is automatically available to Delegate through your UiPath Cloud session. No separate Test Manager login step is required. To execute test cases or publish results, you must also have the UiPath CLI (uip) installed and authenticated via uip login.
How do I get a license?
Delegate for Testing is available for Test Cloud users, gated via Test Cloud licenses: the AppTestDeveloper license or the AppTesters license. Each Test Cloud license includes pool usage quota.
