What Delegate does, how it works, and how it fits your organization's controls and models.

UiPath Delegate is an AI agent that runs on your desktop and does the work you would otherwise do by hand. You describe what you need in plain language, and Delegate drives your applications, documents, and business systems directly to get it done.

Unlike a typical general-purpose desktop assistant, Delegate runs under the controls your UiPath organization already has and operates the enterprise systems your work actually happens in.

Delegate installs alongside UiPath Assistant and Cartographer, and what experience you see depends on what your admin has enabled.

Ask for something that crosses systems and Delegate handles the whole chain, so you get a complete answer without piecing the story together manually — pull a figure from a report and check the related CRM record, triage your email and calendar first thing, or draft a follow-up message once the rest is done.

Record yourself performing a task once, then have Delegate turn that recording into a routine or a knowledge skill it can repeat on your behalf. Useful when a system has no usable API and a full automation would cost more than the task is worth. See Recording your tasks.

Point Delegate at a spreadsheet, a database export, or a folder of files and ask for a presentation, a proposal, or a report. It pulls the relevant data, structures it, and applies your formatting, turning raw data into a finished deliverable in minutes rather than hours.

When Delegate connects to a system that provides one, it can show that system's real screens inside the conversation: lists, forms, tables, and dashboards render inline, not as descriptions. Forms arrive filled in with sensible values, so you change only what matters instead of describing every field in chat, and you keep the precision of the real interface without leaving the conversation. This works through MCP Apps.

Save any successful Delegate session as a reusable routine — built once, like "weekly sales pipeline report" or "monthly expense categorization," a routine can be run on demand with a single click or scheduled to run automatically. You invest the time once to teach Delegate a workflow, then benefit from it repeatedly, and can share it with your team instead of each person rebuilding it. See Repeating work with Routines.

Delegate draws on a model to reason about your request. Each session consumes capacity from an allowance set for your account, and Delegate tells you when you are close to the limit. See Usage and limits.

Direct connections are available for many of the systems you already use — see Working with external data and applications — and for systems without one, such as legacy or specialized applications, Delegate works through Computer Use, driving the application the way a person would. Delegate runs natively on Windows, and draws on UiPath's existing automation for the systems enterprises run on, including SAP, Oracle, Citrix, and mainframes.

Delegate acts with your access, on your machine, inside your systems. There is no separate governance layer built just for it — it operates under the same automation platform governance your organization already runs everything else through, configured through Automation Ops.

Your administrator controls which applications and tools it can use, which models it runs on, and which systems it can connect to, using the same central policies that govern the rest of your UiPath estate. Independently of that, you control how much it does before checking with you, within whatever your organization allows. Model calls route through the UiPath AI Trust Layer, so Delegate is covered by the same platform controls as everything else rather than needing a separate review. Delegate is not built around a single model from a single vendor. By default, it uses whatever models your organization has made available through the UiPath AI Trust Layer — either UiPath's default models, or your own configuration if your organization brings its own.

Your organization can decide which models are acceptable and supply its own where a contract, a regulator, or a data residency requirement demands it. Whichever model is used, calls route through the AI Trust Layer, so the controls and the audit trail do not change.

If your organization already runs UiPath, Delegate uses that work rather than duplicating it. It can call the automations already published in your tenant. Your queues, assets, and permissions carry over, so there is no second set of entitlements to maintain.

Connectors reach into your existing systems the same way the rest of the UiPath platform does; Skills and Plugins are ways of adding capabilities.

Beyond the general-purpose experience, Delegate includes a specialized profile for particular roles. Which profiles you have access to is configured by your organization administrator.

The default experience, described above — Delegate works across your applications, files, and web services on whatever you ask.

Testing is a specialized Delegate experience tuned for reviewing test results, triaging failures, and other quality-assurance workflows across your testing tools. It runs today inside the general-purpose experience rather than as its own separate profile, but it has its own dedicated section later in this guide. Cartographer is UiPath's specialized AI agent for business analysts, built on the same platform as Delegate and reached from the same title bar switcher inside the same application. Rather than driving your systems directly, it turns process knowledge — transcripts, interviews, SOPs, recordings, and your existing automations — into governed process documentation: a Process Design Document (PDD) and, once approved, a Specification Design Document (SDD). Delegate is powered by large language models, and its plans, explanations, and the content it produces may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or based on a misunderstanding of your request. This is a known limitation of LLMs, sometimes called "hallucination."
