Document Understanding Release Notes
June 2025
What's new
With the release of AI Units, some accounts incorrectly retained both Page Units and AI Units, leading to inconsistent usage and metering. Moving forward, only AI Units will be consumed.
If there are no AI Units available, any usage will be counted as overconsumption.
This fix will be rolled out in the upcoming releases.
Classification fields in Document type manager in public preview
We are excited to announce that Classification fields are now available in Document type manager in public preview.
Classification fields are data points that refer to a document as a whole. For example, the expense type of a receipt (food, hotel, airline, or transportation) or the currency of an invoice (USD, EUR, JPY) are classification fields.
For more information, check the Classification fields section from the Build page in the Document Understanding Modern Projects User Guide.
Known limitation
- When using the Extract Document Data activity, classification fields are supported for modern project extractors and out-of-the-box models, but not for classic project extractors.
- Classification fields are extracted for custom document types only after a successful training.
Improved access to AI Unit consumption dashboard
In our ongoing effort to optimize your access to AI Unit consumption dashboards, we have made it simpler to view your tenant-level, organization-level, and IXP-specific usage. Now, you can conveniently access these details via shortcut links provided at several touchpoints. Here are those points of access:
- The Automation Cloud Admin interface: Just navigate through Admin > Licenses > Consumables tab > AI Units > View Usage. There, you can see two shortcut links to the relevant consumption details.
- Email alerts: Whenever your AI units run low, we send an email containing those same convenient links to quickly access your consumption details.
- Platform notifications: Similarly, the shortcut links are included in any system alerts about low AI units.
New widget in AI Unit consumption dashboards
We have enriched the Organization level AI Unit consumption dashboard with a new widget that provides insights into AI Unit consumption when API keys are used as an authentication mechanism at the organization level. For example, the new widget is particularly useful in scenarios where you consume a Skill from AI Center using the Machine Learning Extractor, or classifying using the Intelligent Keyword Classifier or the Form Extractor.
The newly introduced Organization Level API Key Consumption widget provides the following:
- Comprehensive automation details such as tenant ID, automation name and version, Orchestrator folder name, and consumed AI Units.
- Where applicable, details on AI Center and Document Understanding, including the project name and source.
- Details on the consumed AI Units.
Increased clarity on unknown data in AI Unit dashboards
We have improved the AI Unit dashboards to provide more insightful details. Previously, when the dashboards reported unknown values, a generic "Unknown" display text was shown. Now, the dashboards present relevant text detailing potential underlying causes for any issues. This enhancement allows for faster identification and resolution.
For details, refer to Automation name is displayed as Unknown or N/A.
What's new
You can now use the Document Understanding Project Extractor Trainer preview activity from the IntelligentOCR activities package to retrain models.
Delete document data API in Public Preview
We are excited to announce that the DELETE API is now available in Public Preview.
This API allows you to clean up all associated data from a document on demand, without waiting for the automatic seven-day expiration.
For more information, check the Use the Delete Document Data service page from the Document Understanding API guide.
Custom roles
You can now define new roles using a combination of permissions to tailor access controls to your specific needs, offering more granular control than default roles.
For more information, check the Role-based access control page.
Extraction view
You can change the extractions view mode when annotating documents using the Extractions view menu.
Filtered values consist of predictions, which are read-only, and annotations, which can be edited by the user.
For more information, check the Annotate documents page.
