Freezing table columns in the Validation Station
Freeze the leading columns of a wide table in the compact Validation Station, so they stay in view while you scroll.
Wide tables don't fit in the table editor, so you scroll sideways to review a row. When you do, the first columns scroll out of view. Freeze those columns to keep them in place while the rest of the table scrolls.
Freezing is available in the table editor of the compact view only. It changes only how the table looks. It doesn't change the action, the document, the taxonomy, or the extraction result, and it doesn't confirm or clear any value.
The first and last columns of the table editor always stay in place, even when nothing is frozen. The first is the line number column, and the last is the row options column. Frozen columns sit right after the line number column.
Freezing columns
- Open the table editor for a table field.
- In the header of the row options column, select the more options icon.
- Select Freeze columns up to.
- Select the rightmost column you want to keep in view.
The column you select and every column to its left are now frozen. Each frozen column shows a red pin icon in its header.
You can also freeze columns in read-only actions.
Choosing a column
The list shows every column except the last one. For example in a table with the columns Company, Product, UM, Price, and Total, you can freeze up to Price.
Point to a column in the list to see how many columns will stay visible. The count includes the line number column. For example, freezing up to Price, the fourth column, shows 5 columns will stay visible.
Unfreezing columns
To unfreeze all columns, select Unfreeze columns in the same menu. This option appears only while some columns are frozen.
To freeze fewer columns, open Freeze columns up to again and select a column higher in the list. For example, if you froze up to Price, select Product to keep only Company and Product frozen.
Which columns can be frozen
- You can't freeze the last field column, the one just before the row options column, such as Total in the previous example. At least one column must always scroll. This is also why tables with only one column don't offer the option.
- You can freeze a column only if it fits in the table editor, along with the columns to its left. Columns that don't fit are listed but disabled. A note at the top of the list explains this.
To freeze more columns, widen the table editor. You can also make the leading columns narrower by dragging the edge of their header.
When the table editor narrows
The table editor can get narrower after you freeze columns, for example when you drag the divider between the document and the table editor, or make the browser window smaller. Then only the frozen columns that still fit stay frozen. The rest scroll again.
Columns that no longer fit keep their pin icon, but it turns grey. Point to a grey pin to see how many of your frozen columns fit. For example, if you froze up to Price and only three columns fit, Price shows a grey pin and Only 3 of the 4 columns you froze fit here. If none of them fit, you see the same message on Unfreeze columns.
Your choice is kept. When the table editor is wide enough again, all your columns are frozen again.
Where the frozen columns are saved
Your frozen columns preferences are saved in the browser, for each table field in the taxonomy. When you open the same table field again, in any document that uses the taxonomy, the same columns are frozen. Reloading the page keeps them too.
The choice isn't shared. No columns are frozen when:
- You open the action in another browser or on another device.
- Another user opens the same action.
Availability
Freezing table columns is available in Automation Cloud, in the compact view of the Validation Station. The DisplayMode property of the Create Document Validation Action activity sets which view an action opens in.
